Lightspeed is looking for a Senior Python Developer to join our team. As a Backend developer, you will support Lightspeed's Hospitality product group on the mission to expand our reach into new markets and countries while enhancing our advanced hospitality commerce platform.
For this role specifically, you will join our Recommendations Squad. In this team, you will play a key part in developing and optimizing recommendation algorithms, building scalable APIs, and integrating various systems into our products. You will collaborate closely with engineers, data scientists, and product teams to create high-quality, personalized experiences for our users.

What you’ll be responsible for:
- Develop and maintain technical components using Python, including backend services and APIs with FastAPI, and event processing/consumption services in a pub-sub architecture.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests.
- Ensure reliability, performance, and accuracy of systems through proactive care, bug fixes, and root cause analysis of problems.
- Prioritize and address technical debt in alignment with squad roadmaps.
- Collaborate with other teams to facilitate integration with microservices.
- Leverage LLM services to safely and robustly accelerate the development process.
What you’ll be bringing to the team:
- 5+ years of experience in software development with a strong focus on Python.
- Strong English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Strong understanding of scalability, performance optimization, and distributed systems.
- Experience with databases such as MySQL or DynamoDB.
- Knowledge of monitoring applications for performance and reliability
- Hands-on experience with Kafka.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to clean code, maintainability, and systematic correctness.
Even better if you have, but not necessary:
- Experience working with recommendation systems, machine learning models, or data-driven applications.
- Experience in Agile development environments.
- Experience/ interest in Javascript and or Java Spring, basic knowledge of React
- Peer recognised experience in Technical Problem Solving in general
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (HTTP, TCP, TLS, etc.).
- Proficiency with CI/CD systems, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
- Computer Science degree or equivalent.
